What's This We Hear About That Bus?

Yes! At this year's parade, the Road to Freedom Bus will be joining us for our celebrations.  The bus contains a traveling exhibit called the ADA Legacy Tour, and is a reminder that buses have played a major role in the disability rights movement.

Many people know that fighting for accessible buses was one of the biggest fights of the early disability movement.  In fact, here in Chicago, ADAPT and other local disability groups won a lawsuit to force our local transit authority to put lifts on buses, just before the ADA was passed. Plus, bus was how Justin and Yoshiko Dart traveled the country to host listening sessions that led to the creation of the ADA.

Welcome to the 2015 Chicago Disability Pride Parade Planning Process!

Welcome to the official site of the original Disability Pride Parade, the first of its kind in the United States.  Read our Mission Statement.  This year, our Parade will be on July 18, 2015!

This year is the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)!  The Parade is proud to partner with ADA25 Chicago as part of the Chicagoland celebrations of the ADA. Join us to mark 25 years of progress, and get excited for the next 25 years!

We are a volunteer run organization and we need all the volunteers we can get.  Join one of our committee meetings to be part of the planning process.
